7 Sides of Catchment [Interview & Mix] | Selector After Dark

This week’s interview & mix comes from Catchment

Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?

We’re Alex Tyley and Chris Haggett from the South Coast of England, just outside of Bournemouth. We live in a pretty quiet town by the sea where there isn’t really much of a music scene but luckily there are a handful of decent clubs and venues around Bournemouth and Southampton that feature great artists and events. There has also been an increase in local festivals such as Block Party and Southampton Soundclash that are bringing more of a current and exciting music scene to the area.

Can you tell us a bit about what you’ve been working on recently?

We’re currently wrapping up our 3rd release for MTA Records, which we’re very excited about. We’ve also been working on a few remixes and a collaboration, all set to come out this summer!

And can you talk us through the mix?

For this mix we wanted to showcase other producers and DJ’s that we’re really into at the moment, the songs that have been included in our DJ sets most recently, as well as some forthcoming releases from ourselves. Because of the selection of music, we felt that it would represent what you would experience if you were to come and watch us DJ. Therefore, a live recording of the mix felt like the best way to put it together.

Cool, tell us about some of your British DJ heroes?

One of our biggest British DJ Hero’s has to be Carl Cox. We remember one of the first ever Mixmag magazines we bought when we were still in school back in 2007, had a Carl Cox ‘Direct From The Space Terrace in Ibiza’ mix CD included within it. This was a real turning point for us as we used to listen to it front to back on repeat and it gave us a real taste for House and Techno music. Still to this day we love his sets and his positive attitude to the music scene, he’s contributed so much too.

Another hero for us has to be Eats Everything. He also brings a fun attitude to the DJ scene and has countless tunes that we’ve included in our own DJ sets. He never disappoints!

Great and what’s on the cards in the immediate future?

Currently we’re super excited for this summer, as we have a bunch of shows lined up which coincide with our forthcoming release on MTA.

And finally, where is the best place in the world you have performed and why?

We played Fabric for the first time recently as part of an MTA night, which is definitely up there with our favourite venues, but we’d have to say Manchester Warehouse Project. It’s a place that we’ve been going to for years to watch some of our favourite DJ’s so to have the opportunity to play there was such a privilege. We played to a packed out room after Low Steppa and the response and feeling we got from the crowd was amazing!
