7 Sides of Citizenn [Interview & Mix] | Selector After Dark

This week’s interview & mix comes from Citizenn.

Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?

Hey, I’m Citizenn, my friends call me Maurice. You can call me Maurice. I’m from the land of the free and the city of the brave, N-town, shottingham central *former gun crime capital of the UK aka Rack City: Nottingham. But I now call London home.

Tell us about some of your British DJ heroes?

Couldn’t even begin without shouting out the don’t Carl Cox. He’s always fascinated me and still has such zest for the game.
Matt Tolfrey for sure. Spent countless hours glass collecting at Stealth listening to that mad man. That’s about it really everyone else is dope too.

What have you been working on recently?

I’ve recently been making way more dancefloor orientated tracks and loving the bones off of it again. Getting really visceral and behind the scenes with sound design. I feel super comfortable in that space.

Tell us about the mix, how did you put it together, what did you want to represent?

It was a bit stressful to be honest. I always try and add older tunes that I’ve dug out of (my) obscurity but there is just so much dope new stuff out right now it was hard not to just play my Dispersion inbox. Seriously though it was educational for me. Well done everyone you’re smashing it.

Talk us through the British music featured in this mix? Which British artists are you most excited about?

Ashworth is really doing it for me right now. We go back some ways as well so I’m stoked he’s still smashing it up.

What is on the cards in the immediate future?

Touring, touring, studio, studio, not sleeping. Ever. Same old same old I guess!

Where is the best place in the world you have DJ’d and why?

Not British unfortunately!
My favourite show ever is still Panorama Bar. Too many things happened, unspeakable things, life changing things. I’d show you the photos but they don’t exist.
