Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?
Hi! We’re Illyus & Barrientos, and we’re both from Glasgow. Illyus originally grew up in Germany, and re-located to the southside of Glasgow. Ivan was born in America and grew up in Glasgow from an early age. We’re lucky to grow up in a city where our music scene is phenomenal, with such friendly people, and we’ve got some of the best pubs around!

Can you tell us a bit about what you’ve been working on recently?
We’ve been working hard on writing new original material, after remixing a lot in 2015. We’ve released two singles in the past 2 months on Toolroom Records and Glasgow Underground, plus two tracks on the Black Jukebox release on Exploited Records. We’re still writing new releases so we can hopefully give everyone new material to hear by the end of the year.

And can you talk us through the mix?
The mix definitely just represents what we would normally play in a club… from old skool stuff, to new more club oriented tunes… No pretence about it, just good music that we like and love to introduce to everyone.

Which British artists excite you?
We’ve been a bit selfish and included 4 of our latest tracks in the British segment of the mix! We’ve changed a style a lot, so it was nice to mix them together for the first time properly. In terms of British artists, we really love people like Mia Dora, PBR Streetgang, Luke Solomon… in terms of up-and-coming artists we’re excited about are definitely Mark Mackenzie, Idamus, Big Miz and Ryan Martin (All Caps).

Nice, and talk us through some of your British DJ Heroes?
Some of the greats for us have to be Gilles Peterson, Erol Alkan, Mr. Thing and Carl Cox. Pioneers, great selectors and still going strong to this day.

Great and what’s on the cards in the immediate future?
There’s some remixes coming out on Toolroom Records and Cr2 Records within the next month or so. Plus an EP on Material Records. We’ve got some gigs lined up after the summer festival season too.

And finally, where is the best place in the world you have performed and why?
It has to be Boardmasters Festival last year. For some reason we got moved up to the headline slot before Waze & Odyssey, and we played out to thousands of people. It was absolutely unforgettable!
