7 Sides of Kattison [Interview & Mix] | Selector After Dark

This week’s interview & mix comes from Kattison.

Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?

I’m Kattison, a 24-year-old DJ and producer from London. I live in Pimlico at the moment, which is one of those places that no-one has really heard of so you have to tell them it’s near Victoria. To be honest there’s not a lot going on there but it’s pretty easy to get to anywhere in London so is ideal in a way.

Can you tell us a bit about what you’ve been working on recently?

I’ve been working on some new originals, very excited for people to hear them. They’re quite different to my last single Up and Down, I think they’re more club orientated.

And can you talk us through the mix?

I waited until like 12am to record the mix, like many other producers/DJs I work a lot better at nighttime. I wanted the mix to give people an idea of what they’d hear out if they were to hear me DJ live.

Which British artists excite you?

I had to include Paleman, every time he drops a new track it’s like Christmas. His drums are next level, he manages to make stuff which has a groove but which is also so dark at the same time. I was a huge fan of the early dubstep and he somehow merges techno with old classic dubstep sounds, which I can’t get enough of. There’s an Archie Hamilton track in this mix, again I’m a sucker for drums and the drums in his track are so complex yet so, so groovy. Some people may be bored of Bicep’s track Just but in my opinion it will never grow old. One of the best arps ever made!

Nice, and talk us through some of your British DJ Heroes?

I saw Carl Craig at Fabric quite a few months back and he blew me away, the vibe was unreal – it had to be one of the best nights of my life. I also had the chance to see Leon Vynehall at Panorama Bar, I would pay a lot of money to hear that set again. It was such a groove. His production is out of this world as well.

Great and what’s on the cards in the immediate future?

I have a new remix coming out very soon and also you should expect a new original of mine.

And finally, where is the best place in the world you have performed and why?
I’d have to say Corsica Studios in London. I’ve played there a few times and it’s just such a vibe. Everyone seems to be there purely for the music and it’s nice and intimate.
