Selector AfterDark – Koven by The Selector on Mixcloud

Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?

Katie: Hiyaaaa, we are Koven. A Duo from the UK, I live in Luton, which is about 30 miles from London and is known mainly for having an Airport! Max is from beautiful Cornwall but he now lives in Brixton, London.

Can you tell us a bit about what you’ve been working on recently?

Katie: Well we are quite vast in the genres we work in, but mostly we like to make cinematic, bass driven music. Our last EP “Sometimes We Are” was a mix of drum & bass, drumstep and also a song I wouldn’t even know how to describe in terms of genre… let’s say a cinematic ballad. And we are now just working on new music.

And can you talk us through the mix?

Max: It’s mainly a mash up of our last two ep’s ‘Hereinafter’ and ‘Sometimes We Are’. We tried to experiment with different genres as much as possible with these two releases. We also added a couple of dubstep tracks at the end from ’16Bit’ and ‘Zeds Dead’.

Nice, talk us through the British music featured in this mix? Which British artists are you most excited about?

Max: Excluding us, the other British producer in this mix is ’16Bit’, now known as ‘MoodyGood’. His production techniques are on different level. So inspiring listening to everything he does.

Cool, tell us about some of your British musical Heroes and influences in general?

Max: Thom Yorke. From his albums with Radiohead and also his solo stuff, the blend of electronic elements mixed with acoustic instruments is a massive influence for us.

Great and what’s on the cards in the immediate future?

Katie: We are seriously getting our heads down in the studio at the moment so we can come back with some absolute bangin’ tracks! We have some ideas we are very excited about, so our main focus right now is just writing and recording.

And finally, where is the best place in the world you have performed and why?

Katie: We’ve been very lucky to perform at some amazing gigs and festivals so it would be hard to name just one, but I’d say Exit Festival – Serbia was one of the greatest, the country was beautiful and Slovakia was also amazing, the people were so lovely there. We also shot our last music video in Croatia, which was absolutely stunning, and I would highly recommend anyone to go and visit there.
