Event Review : Eric Prydz & Alan Fitzpatrick SW4 Afterparty at Electric Brixton

Two heavyweights go head to head in a triumphant evening…

After all the negative press that has been surrounding London’s nightlife in recent weeks this event seems like a glorious return to form. Electric Brixton‘s theatrical setting proved the perfect platform for a memorable night of music.

On entering, the crowd seemed a little subdued, tired even, sun drunk after SW4’s takeover of Clapham Common there was only a small pocket of people dancing. Brixton’s layered set up allows you to take a backseat for a while and soak up the atmosphere before heading down into the ‘pit’ to full immerse yourself in the experience.

As Alan Fitzpatrick took the stage there was a notable change in the atmosphere – the booming sounds now seemed to echo round the whole venue and those who look down from the rafters seemed to descend downstairs, the swelling crowd now finding themselves dancing on the stairs and at the side of the stage. Fitzpatrick’s set is immense and when he finally unleashes his acclaimed track “We Do What We Want” the energy from those around us is incredible and celebratory.

When Prydz does arrive his ‘exclusive’ set is nothing short of outstanding – drawing from Pryda and Opus his blend of progressive house has the masses ensnared throughout. Highlights included a rousing spin of ‘Power Drive’ midway through that was accompanied by a dazzling array of lights that spread out across the pit below. Prydz looked as though he was enjoying his time back at Brixton – dropping ‘Eternity’ (Leonid Grip.)

It was in the final moments when Pjanoo’s iconic chord finally kicked in that the carnival atmosphere was cemented – the lights in the venue lifted and every single hand was in the air.
