Pacha’s reputation as one of the top party destinations in Europe has been questioned in recent times, with suggestions being made that it has lost its soul in favour of more corporate, mainstream nights. Pacha Barcelona however, is the one venue that is holding itself up as a reminder of what once was. Continuing to hold its head high as a beacon for proper house and techno throw downs, Pacha kicked off 2016 with a series from Insane and FACT, from the start of the New Year through until the end of March. We decided to head out to Barcelona for the third in the Insane series, where Hitch and Alexi Delano were headlining.

With his slick brand of dark, minimal tech, Delano seemed a perfect fit for the cavernous dark spaces offered by Pacha. We arrived to catch the second half of Hitch’s set, and he made sure the near full crowd was bouncing before Alexi made his way up to the raised booth, from where he surveyed the adoring crowd.

Just as we expected, Delano’s big, dark, rolling bass lines perfectly suited the crowd, who didn’t stop moving from start to finish. What really made his set was the quality sound system, the envy of any other big club, combined with Pacha’s spectacular lights.

As we, and everyone else in the capacity crowd, left the club, it was sunny outside and the warm stroll home was the perfect end to a top night. Based on this, Pacha’s reputation is not in danger any time soon, and Alexi Delano looks to have a massive 2016 ahead of him.
