Event Review : Black Boogie with Route 8 and Ross From Friends, Dance Tunnel, London

Route 8 and Ross From Friends played Dance Tunnel on Friday, we went down to check it out…

Dance Tunnel‘s claustrophobic setting has long been heralded as one of London‘s premier intimate venues, playing host to some of the worlds best DJ’s in front of crowds of a couple of hundred.

This is why it was met with a wave of both shock and sadness when earlier this year Dance Tunnel announced that its doors would be closing for good. Another victim of London’s shrinking nightlife and a shot in the arm for the new mayor to make good on his promise to protect these venues.

On Friday night, however, this sadness was far outweighed by the sheer you and enthusiasm of both crowd and artists in Dance Tunnel’s tiny basement.

The sounds that echo and vibrate around the room unite everyone within it and this distinctly cosmopolitan crowd was enjoying every minute. For many events this is the venues victory parade, on continuous ongoing celebration of why London nightlife is still so relevant and so important, not only to its locals but also to the many tourists who flock to it.

A wonderful double salvo at the end of Route 8’s set only served to fortify this when Get Dacor – ‘Passion’ preceded Michael Jackson’s ‘Pretty Young Thing (PYT)’ eliciting a party atmosphere within Dance Tunnel’s iconic walls.
