Event Review: The AMP All Day Rave at Tobacco Dock, London

Annie Mac brings her now legendary raves to the capital…

Annie Mac has long been heralded as one of the leading connoisseurs in electronic music. Her influence is totally undeniable and the lineup she has put together for this series of raves across the country is quite extraordinary.

On entering the venue, Tobacco Dock is visually impressive, it’s grade listed heritage imposes itself upon the crowd. Delving underground we head towards Eats Everything who has already drawn a mammoth crowd, the lights that stream towards the booth are set in time to his booming sounds. The Car Park has a warehouse-esque element towards it and the crowd respond to this, embracing its darkness.

Patrick Topping followed Eats Everything, Topping who has had quite the year is now one of THE names to go on a lineup, his popularity reflected in the size of the crowd. Again, it’s his Dem a Pree remix which provides a real high point, the awesome sound system roaring through the concrete.

We headed towards the main gallery to see Kolsch, there was a certain gear change here, the fact that the daylight was still peering through left the crowd notably more subdued than those beneath them. Kolsch, however, was the highlight of the day – his ‘Grey’ sounding huge within the gallery, he too seemed to be enjoying himself throwing his hands to the sky.

As the day progressed the crowd continued to grow – Mele‘s arrival in the gallery was another high point, Ambience was championed by Annie Mac and when he unleashes this on the crowd only 2 tracks in the room in bouncing. He follows this up with a hit laden set that proves popular with the crowd, ‘Good Life’ putting smiles on the crowd faces.

Annie Mac’s arrival seems like a triumphant moment – she is warmly embraced by the crowd and by including the House Gospel Choir as singers with her set is a revelation, this gives the rave an additional layer of credibility that can only be sustained from a live act. Once again, Mac has established herself as one of the premier forces in dance events and if this is the begging then next summer should be a belter.
