Spotify has transformed the way we listen to and promote music. The platform is unquestionably brilliant for music fans but the amount of royalties they pay to artists has always been a contentious issue.
The royalty rate that Spotify pay is not a flat fee per track and varies based a number of factors but this new resource on MusicFibre.com aims to at least give an estimate of how much an artist can expect to earn from their streams on the platform.
For example, Ed Sheeran’s record breaking album release day last Friday saw his music streamed around 68.7million times in a single day. According to the Spotify royalties calculator on MusicFibre this means he generated around about $309,150.00 in revenue! Bare in mind this is before the label, distributors, management etc take their cuts and the expenses are covered but it’s still a staggering amount of money!
