7 Sides of Billy Turner [Interview & Mix] | Selector After Dark

This weeks interview & mix comes form Billy Turner.

Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?

My name is Billy Turner, I’m a 23 year old techno artist from Crawley in West Sussex. I recently signed my debut EP with Skream on his ‘Of Unsound Mind’ label in October 2016.

What have you been working on recently?

I’ve been working on a lot of original tracks, bootlegs & guest mixes lately. I’ve also got an exciting remix in the works. I have done the Lights On Mix for Monki at the start of the year on Radio 1 & a guest mix for Coco Cole on Capital too which you can check out on my Soundcloud. I’ve also made a track with Skream, which has been going off in all of his sets!

Tell us about the mix, how did you put it together, what did you want to represent?

I recorded the mix at home using headphones, a Pioneer mixer & 3 CDJS. It was an improvised selection & a representation of a small amount of the artists that I’m really feeling at the moment. There’s also a bunch of my own originals/bootlegs in there, plus one called ‘Alien’ from my 2nd EP on Of Unsound Mind & and my collaboration with Skream.

Talk us through the British music featured in this mix? Which British artists are you most excited about?

There’s some British music from artists such as Skream & myself, Benjamin Damage & Damian Lazarus, but most of the tracks are European/American. I’m excited about British techno guys like Skream, Dense & Pika, Alan Fitzpatrick & Benjamin Damage, they all make such amazing music. Most of the artists I’m excited about come from Europe though to be honest which includes all the Berghain guys & Nina Kraviz’s label etc.

What is on the cards in the immediate future?

I’m playing at Fabric in London on 3rd March, very excited for that. I’m warming up Room 2 from 11 – 1 for Monki & Friends. My 2nd EP on Of Unsound Mind was on 10th February in digital stores. You can follow me on Soundcloud, Facebook and Twitter at billyturneruk.
