7 Sides of Jus Now [Interview & Mix] | Selector After Dark

This week’s interview & mix comes from Jus Now.

Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?

Hi, I’m Sam Interface, 1 half of Jus Now. I grew up in Glastonbury and have spent most of my adult life living in Bristol. I now reside in South London.

Can you tell us a bit about what you’ve been working on recently?

We have been doing a lot of production for other artists lately, and quite a few festivals and shows. We have also just finished another EP for Jillionaire’s Feel Up Records that will come out in the next couple months.

And can you talk us through the mix?

The mix represents what I like to play in the clubs really, rolling, tribal, bass heavy grooves with elements of Dancehall, Soca, afrobeats and RnB mixed in to keep it interesting.

Which British artists excite you?

The mix features a lot of music from Jus Now and also my new solo alias; SNØW. As far as other artists there is a lot in there from Dismantle, Champion and T Williams, three producers that i have been working with for a while now and will continue to work with. I love what all of those guys are doing.

There is a couple tracks in this mix from a producer called Hagan who I think is based in London, I don’t know much about him but I’m really feeling his vibes.

Unusually, I didn’t put any of his tunes in this mix, but one of my fav young producers is an artist called Poté. He’s a UK artist who grew up in St Lucia until he was 13. He has been sending me tunes for a few years now that always had amazing vibe but recently his sound has really matured and I’m predicting big things from him over the next few years.

It’s funny, a lot of my fav producers in the UK are guys that have grown up in other countries but now reside here. There is a guy called Salute who grew up in Vienna but is now based in Brighton, he has some amazing stuff going on and also a London artist called DJ Ahadadream who grew up in Pakistan has been sending me some wicked music lately.

Nice, and talk us through some of your British DJ Heroes?

Growing up in the West Country, I was obsessed with DnB / jungle in my teens. Andy C was def a big hero for me as a kid, I remember being about 17 and having a friend who worked security at Creation club in Bristol, he used to get me into the backstage so I could stand behind the booth and study how he managed to mix so fast and so tight! As a young producer the whole Full Cycle crew in Bristol were also a massive inspiration to me, seeing Roni Size drop one of my tunes for the first time at Fabric was a moment I will never forget.

Great and what’s on the cards in the immediate future?

As I mentioned earlier, we have another Jus Now EP coming very soon, probably around October. I also have a lot of SNØW material, I’m just working out how I’m going to put that out. We are doing some production work for a lot of amazing artists at the moment and there are def plans to do a full length Jus Now album at some point in the not too distant future.

And finally, where is the best place in the world you have performed and why?

Hmm, that’s a hard one, I’ve been lucky to play some pretty incredible places. We did a couple of incredible gigs in Brazil last year, and once played a festival in the courtyard of an ancient fort in Jodhpur Rajasthan, but my fav place to play in the whole world is actually Bristol!! I’m involved in a night there with a co-op of people called Who Cares, we run regular Wednesday nights at a spot called the Moon Club, it is dark, small and has an amazing sound-system, the vibe in there is always incredible.
