7 Sides of MANT [Interview & Mix] | Selector After Dark

This week’s interview & mix comes from MANT.

Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?
Hi we’re MANT aka Sam and Andy, we’re from London, and MANT was formed in Brixton.

Tell us about some of your British DJ heroes?
Too many to name really, but Pete Tong’s always been a massive influence especially his Essential Selection show on Radio 1. Carl Cox too needs no introduction, a legend. Gotta shout out Eats Everything and Skream too.

What have you been working on recently?
Lately we’ve been working on a lot of new material, we’ve had releases on Weapons and Solä, and have one forthcoming on Yousef’s Circus. We’ve got loads of bits in the pipeline including some collaborations we’re buzzing for. We’ve also started a monthly mix series on Mixcloud focussing on tunes we’re currently into, and unreleased new material.

Tell us about the mix, how did you put it together, what did you want to represent?
The mix is put together on 2 cdjs and a djm mixer – the tunes in there are by people we know and love, who are British. The mix really represents a current snap shot of what people call Tech House – we love how this encompasses so many different sub styles

Talk us through the British music featured in this mix?
Riaz Dhanani – Truly One
MANT – Really Was
Will Clarke & Bot – Techno
Eats Everything & Lord Leopard – Song for
Mele – Chi Town
Josh Butler & Bontan – Call You Back
wAFF – Wormhole

Literally everyone featured in the mix is on fire right now – we’re very lucky to have such a varied pool of artists to pick from and inspire us everyday

Which British artists are you most excited about?
Skream, Eats Everything, Elliot Adamson, Mele, Jaden Thompson, Solardo, Riaz Dhanani, wAFF, Josh Butler and Bontan – there’s so many so if we’ve left anyone off – sorry!

What is on the cards in the immediate future?
Lots more music, dj gigs, probably quite a lot more pizzas too.

Where is the best place in the world you have DJ’d and why?
Playing Fabric was a bit of a moment for us, but last years Exit Festival in Serbia was incredible, beautiful country, great people and getting to play music in a 300 year old fortress? What’s not to like. Got to mention Electro Magnetic Festival in Völklingen, Germany too. It’s a techno festival in an old industrial iron works which is a Unesco World Heritage Site. Seriously, google it. Seriously.
