7 Sides of Patawawa [Interview & mix] | Selector After Dark

This weeks interview & mix comes from Patawawa

Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?
We’re Patawawa and we’re from a rate rowdy town called Matlock. It’s right in the centre of England.

Can you tell us a bit about what you’ve been working on recently?
We’ve just got an EP ready that’s coming out this month called ‘Hold Tight’ which will be out on Soundplate Records, and we’ve been doing quite a few remixes and collabs that will also be coming in your ears very soon.

And can you talk us through the mix?
We were trying to span a couple of our favourite genres, e.g. Funk, Soul, Hip-Hop and Disco. These are some of the songs that get people going when we play gigs so we just wanted to share a few with you guys.

Which British artists excite you?
YSE Saint Laur’Ant is from our home town and he shares our love for good disco music. He’s had loads of good tunes out that we love. There’s also Inland Knights who are from Nottingham which isn’t too far from us, they’ve been releasing stuff my whole life time I’m sure and so much of it is gold!

Nice, and talk us through some of your British DJ Heroes?
I (Beth) love all the classics like Bigbird, Littlebird, Sunny Side Up, Luke Evans, Fat Harris and DJ Khaled! But Rory and Sam only like Paris Hilton.

Great and what’s on the cards in the immediate future?
30th September
is the first release of our EP, then the second half of it will be released in November with killer remixes by the likes of Benet, French Horn Rebellion, TWOGOOD and much more! If all else fails we’re probably going to split up so we can have a phat reunion tour in about a month or so.

And finally, where is the best place in the world you have performed and why?
Probably Ynot festival this year, just because it’s our local festival and loads of people we knew were there, so it felt a little bit like a homecoming gig, even though we never left in the first place.
