7 Sides of Semedo [Interview & Mix] | Selector After Dark

This week’s interview & mix comes from Semedo

Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?

We are Semedo, a production duo from London, we’ve been DJing and making music together for about 10 years now under different guises.

Tell us about some of your British DJ heroes?

Mr Thing – arguably the greatest ever turntablist to come out of the UK. His 2000 DMC set was a true inspiration and an absolute masterclass of two-clicks, transforms and chirp flares.

Dave Taylor / Switch / Solid Groove – the last game changer in house music, his productions were so fresh and unique.

What have you been working on recently?

A brand-new batch of sunshine bangers for summer sets.

Tell us about the mix, how did you put it together, what did you want to represent?

We mixed it live in one take in our basement studio and then did a few track edits in Abelton.

It’s representative of what we’d play in a club set – lots of pumping disco and filter house around 130bpm with big basslines and uplifting vox.

Couple of old chestnuts in there too!

Talk us through the British music featured in this mix? Which British artists are you most excited about?

Denis Sulta is sick, really love his productions and DJ sets.

Alex Virgo is someone brand new and his track ‘Ze Dance’ is right up our street.

That Finn joint that closes the mix is incredible, so raw and simple but hits the spot.

What is on the cards in the immediate future?

More Semedo singles over the summer, and a couple of remixes lined up too.

Where is the best place in the world you have DJ’d and why?

Ibiza never ever fails. Been going back there every year for over 10 years and despite all the changes it still has the magic.
