7 Sides of Tuff London [Interview & Mix] | Selector After Dark

This week’s interview & mix comes from Tuff London

Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?

Hi, we’re Sam & Ben, aka Tuff London.
Ben – I’m actually from London.
Sam – I’m from lovely Leeds.

Tell us about some of your British DJ heroes?

We’re extremely lucky to have grown up with such an amazing calibre of British DJ’s to inspire us. There’s so many to mention but our biggest DJ heroes were the kings of the London underground scene from the late 90’s: the likes of Carl Cox, Trevor Rockcliffe and Tony De Vit.

What have you been working on recently?

We’re literally just finishing a new EP as we speak actually that we’ve been busy in the studio putting the finishing touches to. We’ve signed music to be released over the coming month on labels such as Toolroom, Spinnin and Snatch (including a collab with one of our favourite producers Ben Remember). We’ve also just finished off our forthcoming sample pack for Loopmasters. We’ve been busy boys!

Tell us about the mix, how did you put it together, what did you want to represent?

The mix represents the full spectrum of music we play, make and like. We really hate keeping things all on the same level or in a similar style so the mix takes you from house to techno to tech house and back out the other side. We are inspired by so much good music from many different sources and genres so we like to incorporate this into our sets as much as possible. There’s music old, new, borrowed and beyond on this mix – make sure you turn it up loud šŸ˜‰

Talk us through the British music featured in this mix? Which British artists are you most excited about?

The first 5 tracks on this mix are from some of our favourite British producers and labels. We’ve got brand new music from men of the moment Camelphat, solid grooves from Latmun, a cheeky dancefloor banger from newcomer Elliot Adamson on Eats Everything’s label Edible, alongside the most recent track by some dudes called Tuff London…
Britain has and always will be one of the driving forces of dance music across the world and we’re extremely excited and privileged to be a part of that.

What is on the cards in the immediate future?

We’ve got the releases we mentioned before all lined up across summer along with some DJ dates at various discos around the world – check out facebook.com/tufflondonmusic for all the details. If you mean in the very near immediate future Iā€™m going for a nap and Ben is getting excited about his new found love of sparkling water (he’s so techno).

Where is the best place in the world you have DJ’d and why?

Silly question – LONDON. Say no more šŸ˜‰
