7 Sides of Apexape [Interview & Mix] | Selector After Dark

This week’s interview & mix comes from Apexape.

Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?

Hey I’m Klaud I’m from South London but now a live in Bristol

I’m Ben from Bristol who now lives in London

Tell us about some of your British DJ heroes?

Growing up in south London. Garage was a big part of my youth and in my teens going to see DJ’s like EZ, (who still to this day still plays one of the best sets going) Zinc, MJ Cole, Sticky and so many others set me off down this path listening to them playing all different vibes crossing over in to different genre and always smashing the rave. I think the UK has always lead in terms of dance music we have great producers in this country and I have been inspired by the veteran in the scene and by my peers. From House music to Jungle no matter what genre we in the UK are always pushing the boundaries

What have you been working on recently?

We have been in the studio getting our next batch of tracks ready, with our next tune forthcoming on Strictly Rhythm which we’re very excited about. It’s been amazing to work with some great vocalist this year, and we’re looking forward to more tracks coming out for 2017/2018 – all good things on the horizon!!

Tell us about the mix, how did you put it together, what did you want to represent?

The mix is a roller featuring some of our favourite deeper tracks out there at the moment – there’s some incredible tunes we don’t always get to perform at peak time sets but it’s always nice to showcase them in mixes – keeping the energy moving but on a deeper level

Talk us through the British music featured in this mix? Which British artists are you most excited about?

On this tip there’s some incredible tracks from Dusky – so consistent in their quality, production and sound, Mele – one of the most original sounding producers out there at the moment and Bontan – whose had a blinding year, especially with this release we’ve chosen out on Hot Creations. The UK is definitely on fire at the moment for musical talent.

What is on the cards in the immediate future?

We’ve been hard working in the studio, just finished up a few different remixes so looking forward to them dropping over the summer as well as performing out at a few festivals.

Where is the best place in the world you have DJ’d and why?

That’s a hard one !!! Every party is different and this changes to where you are in the world… I would say its between Ibiza and the UK just because the ravers are really responsive to the sets we’ve played, it’s nice dropping fresh and classic dubs and everyone going off!! Just having a good old knees up.
