Logo Design for DJ’s – Why It’s Important & How To get One

Why a professional logo is important for your music career and how to get one made..

This post originally appeared on our partner website, MusicFibre.com.

Think of your favorite bands, DJ’s or artists. One thing they probably all have in have in common is a strong brand identity. Check out the images below and you will quickly see what I mean..

Your artist logo will appear on all of your flyers, posters, merchandise, covers so it really is worth getting it right. Having a strong brand image will make you more desirable for bookings, help you shift merchandise and make your online music profiles look much more professional. As your career develops your logo should help you stand out on posters and marketing material. Music logos often help fans feel an affinity to the artist. Think of how many times you have seen someone wearing a band’s logo on their T-shirt or have seen one copied onto the front of a school book. It’s a way for fans to show who they follow and how much they care about your music.

A good logo / brand image can instantly make a fan think of their favorite song, that magic live set or that crazy night in Ibiza!

What makes a good artist logo?

Your artist logo should be simple, clear and should be able to work in colour or in black and white.

Your logo should also somehow be representative of your musical style. If you look at the examples above you will notice the bands have a different style to the DJ”s or the pop stars. Getting this right can be difficult and take a lot of work.

A good artist logo also needs to be versatile. If your logo looks great on an album cover but is hard to read or difficult to print in a single colour it won’t last the test of time.

How do I come up with one for myself / my band / my artist?

Creating a logo isn’t easy so if so if graphic design is not your thing you are going to need to find a designer to work with. Luckily for you, we have made this easy, check out our graphic design directory page for some of our top suggestions. Alternatively check out some options below:

If you don’t have a big budget but still want a professional logo design we suggest running a design contest with 99Designs.

99designs is an online community of graphic designers who provide professional, affordable designs to people like you. To get started you answer a few simple questions about what you are looking for. Designers then compete to offer you their best ideas, in just a few days you will have loads to choose from. Once you have settled on an option you like you can work directly with that designer to make sure it’s perfect.

It’s not just logos the designers at 99Designs can help you with, you can also get social media graphics, flyers at much more sorted that way. If it is just a logo you are after and your budget is super-tight check out 48HourLogo where you can launch a logo design contest for $29 and pick a winner just 48 hours later!

A few important things to remember…

  • Your artist logo should be simple and memorable.
  • Your logo should work in both colour and black and white.
  • If you are working with a designer be sure to request the design files in a variety of formats (.psd, .jpg, .png, .pdf) – this will ensure you will also have the right file ready when it’s requested.
  • Work It! – Use your logo across your social media, merchandise and request promoters use it on the artwork for your gigs!
