We’ve officially seen off our summers and now the cold, harsh realities of Winter are setting in. Whether you’re marooned in Ibiza, trudging through London or literally freezing in Berlin, now’s the time when, traditionally, we hibernate for the colder months.

As such, most people look to winter as a time for thoughtfulness and a period in which the biting air makes for some rather sad faces. But we say bollocks to the winter blues. Put your dreary folk music CD’s and heartfelt ballads back on the shelf – here at Soundplate we’d rather fight fire with fire, with nine current techno tracks that are guaranteed to stave off the blues with full throttle musical clout and fearless mutiny. Have a listen below and remember – summer is only 6 months away.

The Dutchman comes correct once again, this time for the record label wing of Berlin’s Berghain club. Deep house and emotional techno combine, fused together by Martyn’s trademark focus on bass.

One of Bristol’s most successful new labels comes up trumps again with an icey, upfront slice of warehouse techno. The South-West revolution continues, even when the conditions are tough outside…

Watergate’s ‘first lady’ is known for mixing early C & D influences into her techy, deep and heads down productions. This one is a smile raising winter warmer for the clubbing masses..

Unapologetic in it’s delivery from the opening few bars, this track is to say ‘stop moping and whining and get with the f***ing program’. The title track is pure hydraulic groove, mechanistic and unstoppable, and should come with a health warning.

The ‘Baron of techno’ meets an outspoken champion of the US scene alongside third party Louisahhh! For RAAR. Stripped back, void of groove and 100% produced on analogue equipment, it’s reminiscent of Clarke’s uncompromising attitude to music and would knock the flakes off a snowman.

A chunky mid-winter tune for the techno fan – from the pinnacle of the tracks thumping kick drum, it travels through different layers, as it descends to a spacious and atmospheric base of Model 500 melodic synths and cracking, analogue snare hits and ticks.

Prepare yourself for the weird and eerie unknown with shadowy Clay Wilson’s latest trip to the peripherals of the dancefloor. Exploring the sounds and crevases between notes, this track is great for normalising you for the frosty conditions that await.

Meta.83’s original version is weighted down by spine crunching kicks and finely EQ’d hi hats while an acidic, sub bass line growls and emerges from the shadows.

Portuguese producer making waves in the UK and Berlin scenes, this track holds as much finesse as the Incredible Hulk attempting to knit a jumper. IDM laced, staunch techno fare to keep one’s pulse racing.
