There are few producers or artists out there as experimental as Rustie: breaking down every ‘genre defining’ convention, it’s never quite clear what rhythmically masterful trick he has got up his sleeve. Wading through the ‘electronicadubmatic’ exploratory depths of his previous work, Rustie has made a remarkable statement with his new release ‘Slasherr’: immersed in a SBTRKT-esque dub foundation, but still swathed in euphoric pad sweeps and penetrating bass stabs. Destined already to be one of the anthems of the summer, one can only hope this is just the beginning of what is likely to be another fruitful year for the Glaswegian.
