Want to Make Money from Your Soundcloud Plays?

Rights-holders may soon be able to earn revenue from their audio on popular streaming platform SoundCloud. This has long been an issue of contention in the industry as Soundcloud, in this respect have been behind other platforms like Youtube in allowing artists and labels monitise their content.

A number of monetisation systems currently being tested at the company including various advertising models. This only stands to make Soundcloud more powerful and an even more important promotional tool for labels.

Speaking to The Guardian, SoundCloud’s co-founder and CTO, Eric Wahlforss said:

“It’s right for artists and rights-holders to expect some sort of remuneration from such a successful platform.”

“When you have millions of followers and millions of listeners, you’ve got some point expecting there to be some sort of monetisation there,” he added. “We hear that loud and clear.”

While the app is very easy to use and makes the listening experience better, many key features such as commenting have been disabled for now leaving many artists and labels unsatisfied.

We expect the core features to be added to the new app soon. These changes may all be connected with the new revenue models, making way for new mobile advertising formats.

Do you think it’s about time artists are paid for their Soundcloud plays or will advertising ruin the platform?
