In the dark corners of what is a fast-moving and dynamic scene, there are a few artists who truly ‘stick to their guns’, refusing to be engulfed in the ever-changing manuscript of what is considered ‘cool’ or current. It’s fair to say that Dudley Strangeways fits into this category. Bridging the gap between House and Techno, this track is effortlessly cool: the subtle bass stabs and swirling pad rises are cloaked in an over-arching cathedral-shaped reverb. There is nothing particularly complicated or challenging about Dudley Strangeways’ creative work, but the phrase ‘simple but effective’ couldn’t be more fitting of his production.
