Game-Changing Announcements at ADE from Pioneer & AFEM

Amsterdam Dance Event kicked off yesterday with a full day of panels, meetings, product launches, films & more. Amongst all the exciting developments that are being spoken about Pioneers new software is certainly one of the announcements being spoken about the most.

Kuvo is made up of a hardware unit which is plugged directly into the CDJs of a club and will stream information on what is being played into the cloud. The app will allow users to get set information and even to buy tracks from stores including Beatport & Juno.

This new technology development is also paving the way for the new “Get Played Get Paid” campaign from the Association For Electronic Music (AFEM). Using the data captured by Pioneer’s Kuvo, the AFEM aims to finally sort the problems associated with collecting  perfomance royalties in nightclubs. Until now, an estimated £100m per year has been going to the wrong people or not being collected at all, this finally seems like a step in the right direction and will mean writers & performers get more of the royalties they deserve.

Many key industry firgures have already come out in support of the new developments including Richie Hawtin who said:

“We’re in a position to champion underground dance music producers, who are often overlooked by a system that can pay disproportionate amounts of money to other music genres,” says Grotefeld. “We will offer our data to performing rights societies to help them provide a more effective reporting solution for their members, enabling the accurate payment of royalties to dance music producers.”
