Everybody loves a good bootleg. Reinventing classic underground anthems for the masses is a practise that benefits everybody involved: the producer gets a nice lick of exposure when the track sweep across the nation, the original artist gets a small glimpse back to the moment when their career was at a peak, and we, the listener, get a damn good singalong and a trip down memory lane. From the second you press play, Marcus Jakes’ rework of Jodeci’s classic ‘Freak n You’ explodes through the speakers like a trapped rhino escaping from the zoo. This is how a bootleg should be done: bouncy, vivacious, and intelligently re-worked. He promises there are more ‘freebies and goodies’ on the way, so keep your eyes peeled – this one will have you grooving!
