More and more artists are networking online and working together remotely.

Soundplate recently conducted a large-scale survey of independent artists (more on that soon!) and found out just how often artists that have never met in real life are collaborating.

This statistic underscores the importance of online collaboration tools, digital communities and wider access to music creation tools. Where previous generations of artists typically only had the chance to work with other musicians in the same studio, independent artists are now collaborating more than ever, often without meeting at all.

Tips for a successful music collaboration:

From communication to legal issues like split sheets there is a lot to consider before collaborating with another artist.

In this article we go into detail about some of the key considerations.

How to promote your music collaboration:

  • Make sure all artists are credited properly when the song is delivered to your music distributor, adding multiple ‘primary artists’ will mean your music reaches more people on Spotify, Apple Music etc.
  • Create a music smart link for your collaboration and make sure you are all sharing the link across social media, a consistent message and link will help you reach the maximum possible listeners.
  • Submit to Spotify playlists (free!).
  • Use MusicTickers to create social media content for the release.
  • Promote your music with targeted social media adverts. The Soundplate advertising tool will allow you to target fans of all artists involved in the collaboration and fan bases of other similar artists in your genre.
