7 Sides of One Bit [Interview & Mix] | Selector After Dark

This week’s interview and mix comes from One Bit.

Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?

Hey, we’re Joe and Jonty and together we make up One Bit. We grew up in Nottingham and Oxford respectively but now are both based pretty much in the middle of nowhere just north of London. It’s a great place to be able to shut ourselves away from all the distractions of the city and focus on producing, but close enough to get stuck in when we get bored of living in a field.

Can you tell us a bit about what you’ve been working on recently?

We’ve been working on a whole bunch of new One Bit tracks which we’re super excited to start rolling out. Our latest track Keep You has recently been released on Exploited Recs and we had SubSoul on board hosting the video, which was cool. We also had a remixes for Catchment on MTA, Dr. Meaker out on Circus an original called Rain premiered by UKF earlier in the year.

And can you talk us through the mix?

So we put the mix together live through our Traktor setup, we run 2 Native Instruments D2s and a DJM800 mixer, which enables us to run up to 4 decks. We wanted to show off a few sneaky new bits that we’ve been working on in the studio as well as maintaining our artist ethos of quirky beats, big builds and bigger bass.

Which British artists excite you?

We’ve popped a few sneak peaks at what we’ve been getting up to in the studio in the form of our bootleg of The New Sins – Lights Down and our new single Keep You. We’ve also thrown in a couple of remixes that we’ve recently done for Echoes and Catchment. Next worth a mention would be Jaded, they first hit our radar with their massive tune Big Round & Juicy but for today we’ve popped in She Likes It for your listening pleasure. We haven’t had the opportunity to check them out live yet but there are some disturbingly big tunes coming out of this trio!

Nice, and talk us through some of your British DJ Heroes?

One of the first mixes that really got me into DJing was from Steve Lawler, I loved the way that he could just draw you in without you realising it. Then there’s Basement Jaxx that just bring that quirk, Fatboy Slim for his amazing song selection and well…beach boutique! The pedigree of British DJs is pretty inspiring – it feels rude to only name a few.

Great and what’s on the cards in the immediate future?

Our previous release Daydream is going to be the soundtrack to the new DKNY campaign so we’re working on a pretty big VIP of that. Then we’re just putting plans in place for the follow up to Keep You now, which we’ll be announcing shortly – watch this space!
