7 Sides of Rebel Kleff [Interview & Mix] | Selector After Dark

This weeks interview & mix comes from Rebel Kleff

Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?

My Name is Kristian Revelle aka Rebel Kleff, and I live in Waterloo, London.
Can you tell us a bit about what you’ve been working on recently?
Aside from recording a few DJ mixes, I am starting to hone in on my first full producer project, working with UK MCs and vocalists. Some of which are included in the mix. Also helping to finish off Loyle Carner’s debut record, which is coming along very nicely indeed. I have a few tracks on there.

And can you talk us through the mix?

In my mix I wanted to focus on the genre I love best, which is of course Hip Hop. Similarly, most of my influences are from the States, but there is a real amount of burgeoning talent coming from the UK, and London in particular. The scene is really strengthening and standing on it’s own two feet, and I wanted to represent that in the opening part of my mix.
Which British artists excite you?
We (myself and Loyle) are currently on tour with Othasoul, who are really talented guys. Great fun to have around. There are a few other names that I’m super excited about, some of whom I am currently working with also. You should hear a lot more coming from them: Coops, Frankie Stew and Harvey Gun, Tom Misch, Manik MC and Kiko Bun.

Nice, and talk us through some of your British DJ Heroes?

Regrettably, most of my DJ heroes reside overseas! However, I’m a big fan of DJ Mr Thing. Really representing Hip Hop on this side of the water. My overseas heroes are guys like DJ Jazzy Jeff, Skratch Bastid, Z Trip and Babu just to name a few. They get busy!

Great and what’s on the cards in the immediate future?

I am currently halfway through the Loyle UK Tour, which has been incredible so far, and at the end of the month we will begin our European dates. So very excited to be on the road and keeping busy.
And finally, where is the best place in the world you have performed and why?
Without a doubt one of the best places I’ve played has to be MIDI Festival in 2015. The location was stunning – a chateau in the French Riviera. It was one of the most memorable and unique experiences for me. I did get badly sun burnt, which was not as fun!
