It’s not secret that as Spotify has grown, it has been loosing more and more money. Could the world’s biggest company be planning to take over the company?

Google, who already own Youtube, the world’s biggest video platform have been showing interest in music streaming for some time now. In an unlikely move a few days ago, Spotify announced that they were moving their back-end data / infrastructure to Google’s cloud servers. The headline of the announcement was “Announcing Spotify Infrastructure’s Googley Future.”. Many industry pundits have suggested this could be a big step towards a full acquisition of the company by Google.

The suggestion is that Google have given Spotify these servers for free or at the very least at an extremely discounted rate while they discuss a deal about the streaming companies future. The major record label’s own a stake in Spotify following licensing deals, if a sale was to go through, it could be a monumental pay-day for the labels..
