5 Tracks to Celebrate 5 Years of Back Butter Records!

Black Butter Records have been one of London’s  the UK’s biggest music successes stories. The label today celebrates it’s 5th Birthday with a huge party at The Electric Brixton where a huge line-up of Black Butter Records artists will play to a capacity crowd.

Black Butter Records 5 Years

Ahead of the party we have been looking back through the Black Butter catalogue and have picked out 5 of our favourite tracks from the labels output to mark the occasion!

‘HO! Riddim’ was probably our first introduction to Black Butter back in 2010. It was the third BB release and was a perfect slice of raw underground UK music and still goes off 5 years later..

‘The Crypt’ was our the first release from the collaborative project by RackNRuin & Foamo, Gorgon City.  The duo have since gone on to achieve UK Chart successes with singles like ‘Real’ & the 2014 hit ‘Ready For Your Love’. They have also toured worldwide and collaborated, remixed and produced music with some of the worlds biggest and best acts including Pete Tong (All Gone Pete Tong & Gorgon City Compilation), Basement Jaxx (Remix), Jess Glynne (Production) and many more! ‘The Crypt’ is the EP that started it all and still sounds as good now as it did in early 2012 when it was released.

Rudimental CrowdIf there is one track that defines Black Butter as a label it might well be this one. The track from the London based electronic music group took Rudimental & Black Butter to the top of the UK Singles Chart. Rudimental had first caught our attention a couple of years earlier with their single ‘Deep In The Valley’ (ft. Shantie), it’s fair to say even then their sound stood out in the London underground scene. Many, many studio hours and some A&R and marketing magic from the label and ‘Feel The Love’ was released and went on to become a worldwide hit and true festival anthem. This is one of those tracks that will stand the test of time, a true Black Butter Records classic.

Next up we have one of my personal favourites from the BB Recs. back catalogue. ‘Masterplan’ by Bristol-based duo My Ny Leng. This gritty banger has been shaking club soundsystems worldwide. We also love the Zed Bias remix of this which came out on the remix release.  My Nu Leng have been Black Butter regulars for a few years now and also have a slew of big remixes on BlackButter and other labels including a cut on the Naughty Boy #1 hit, ‘La La La’ featuring Sam Smith!

elderbrook-how-many-times-andhim-960Our final selection brings us right up to date, this beautiful remix by Andhim of Elderbrook’s, ‘How Many Times’ was released earlier this year. The remix is a masterpiece. The Cologne based duo strike the perfect balance, the mix is full of their own style without loosing the essence of the original track. If you have not already purchased Elderbrook’s debut EP for Black Butter we suggest you check it out right away using the iTunes link below.
