7 Sides of Apollo 84 [Interview & Mix] | Selector After Dark

This week’s interview & mix comes from Apollo 84.

Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?
Hi I’m Joe aka Apollo 84 from Essex just outside of London.

Tell us about some of your British DJ heroes?
In the past growing up I followed the likes of Steve Lawler, Mark Knight and especially the legend that is Carl Cox.

What have you been working on recently?
Recently I’ve had quite a few remix projects to do including one for the Brazilian duo Fancy Inc which has come out nice. Also I’ve been working on my new music for 2018 – lots of tough groovy originals, and also some darker stomping techno bits too!

Tell us about the mix, how did you put it together, what did you want to represent?
I wanted to represent a tough and stomping sound that I would play in a club, but also a mix that was very dynamic and groovy.

Talk us through the British music featured in this mix? Which British artists are you most excited about?
Right now my good friend Max Chapman is smashing it and I am really feeling his sound – it works so well, it has a raw toughness but a real nice groove. Archie Hamilton is another UK artist I like with an interesting sound that is always varied.

What is on the cards in the immediate future?
I have an upcoming tour of South America after the summer, and several Ibiza dates prior to that, music wise I am really excited with whats coming out, I have an EP on Metodi Hristov’s label which shows my tougher side as well as an EP on Popof’s Form imprint. Again these are a much tougher European sound, whilst I also have my normal grooving tech house sounds coming out on Pirupa’s label as well as music on Max Chapman’s Resonance, and Anthony Attalla’s Incorrect label.
