Selector After Dark – Denney 2020 Vision Mix by The Selector on Mixcloud

Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?

I’m a DJ and Producer originally from the North East of England but I currently live in Leeds. I release music on Hot Creations, VIVa Music and Pokerflat to name a few.

Can you tell us a bit about what you’ve been working on recently?

I recently did a remix for Rudimental & Ed Sheeran and also one for Leftroom.  I’m currently working on a lot of new original material and I’ve got a few big projects I’m working on but can’t say too much about just yet…watch this space!

And can you talk us through the mix?

One of my favourite ever record labels is 20:20 Vision which also happens to be British, and I have a strong connection with being in Leeds and also good friends with Ralph Lawson.  So I decided to do a mix exclusively of tracks from the label from over the years.  A lot of crate digging and love went into it, it also made me find tracks I had forgotten about which is always a bonus!

Nice, talk us through the British music featured in this mix? Which British artists are you most excited about?

There’s music on there from British artists such as 2020 Soundsystem, Moodymanc, Burnski and Random Factor.  The British artists that have excited me the most in recent years have got to be A Love From Outer Space which is Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston’s DJ guise, they are absolutely incredible.

Cool, tell us about some of your British musical Heroes and influences in general?

As soon as I think of British DJ heroes the names that instantly spring to mind are Andrew Weatherall, Paul Woolford, Steve Lawler, Yousef, Sasha, Carl Cox, Ralph Lawson, Chris Duckenfield, James Holroyd, Buckley, Tristan Da Cunha, Craig Richards and Luke Solomon.  The main reason for this is that these guys have been the biggest influences for me growing up, I would still go and see any of these guys play any day of the week and lose it on the dancefloor.

Great and what’s on the cards in the immediate future?

I am just getting my head down in the studio big time, working on getting some new EPs together. I’ve had a really busy summer of touring so now time to get cracking over the winter months.

And finally, where is the best place in the world you have performed and why?

This is a really hard question but I would have to say either Lost Beach Club in Ecuador or Renate in Berlin, both are complete opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of venue but both equally special in their own right.
