Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?

I’m Lex Luca & I’m from London. As the capital of England, it’s a vibrant, multicultural city, which never sleeps! There’s literally something for everyone.

In terms of music, it’s really exciting to be here. There’s always something going on, from Skream & Eats Everything at XOYO on a Saturday to a Strata East all stars band curated by Gilles Peterson, at the Barbican on a Sunday, there is never a dull moment! There’s huge super clubs and tiny underground basements, which keeps it interesting and diverse.

Can you tell us a bit about what you’ve been working on recently?

I’ve just come back from an amazing DJ tour, hitting Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama and Dominican Republic. I notched up 14 gigs across 5 weeks, which was an incredible experience.  And I’ve been chipping away in the studio making some music!

And can you talk us through the mix?

My hour-long mix represents my DJ sets. Every DJ set I play is different as I’m constantly getting new music, so it’s a selection of some of my favourite tunes right now.

Nice, give us a taste of some of your favourite British artists at the moment?

ZDS aka Zombie Disco Squad. He’s one of my favourite UK producers, consistently high quality productions.

Denney comes from Leeds in the UK and has been putting out tunes over the last two or three years. He’s put out tunes on Viva, Saved, 2020 Vision and Hot Creations, which kind of speaks for itself!

Disciples are pretty much household names nowadays. The iconic Pete Tong has remixed it for the late night dance-floor!

Waze & Odyssey have done really well since they got together a few years back. Their productions are really great, and they’re really know how to work a dance-floor!

As I Am is from South London. He’s been in the game for a while, and actually launched one of the underground radio stations over 10 years ago called Select UK Radio. More recently he has progressed on to making music and is turning a few heads with released on Defected, Get Twisted and Azuli amongst others.

Copy Paste Soul is one of the most exciting producers coming out the UK underground right now. His productions are spot on, and with his 2 Swords label going from strength to strength, there are some exciting times ahead for him.

Cool, tell us about some of your British DJ Heroes and influences in general

I’ve been lucky enough to work as a radio producer to some of my DJ heroes, like Gilles Peterson and Pete Tong. They’ve been, and continue to be a big inspiration to my music. When I was growing up DJs like Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx and Carl Cox were hitting the mainstream, and they were an entry point to me, hearing them on the radio. There was also loads of big club DJs like Sasha, John Digweed and more underground pirate radio DJs who I listened to a lot as a teenager.

And what’s on the cards in the immediate future?

I have some music set to be released. This month a track called Copo on Costa Rica’s top label Half Seas Over. My track Hoop is due out on 1980 very soon. And I have a track Shake Your Body due for release in July on a great London based label called Troupe. Plus I’m just finalizing the details for the release of my two track EP.

Difficult to single out one place! One of my favourite places to date has been Mexico. I’ve DJ’d in some great clubs in Tulum, Playa Del Carmen and Mexico City. I’ve also had some great gigs in Costa Rica too. Places like Ibiza, Berlin and London always have a certain buzz about them, and going to play music in countries like Panama, Dominican Republic, Iceland, Malawi and Japan have all been pretty special too!
