Selector Afterdark – Tough Love by The Selector on Mixcloud

Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?

We’re Alex & Stef, based out of London UK. We’ve been working on the Tough Love project for about 4 years now. It’s seen us run our own nights in London in various parts of the city, a city which we love and call home.

Can you tell us a bit about what you’ve been working on recently?

We’ve just finished off our next single with Ginuwine, which was an amazing experience. We’ve also been working on lots of new original material for our album, which is coming together at the moment. On more of a club tip we recently had 2 days in the studio with the S-Man Roger Sanchez & have a couple EP’s with him dropping in 2015

And can you talk us through the mix?

Our mix represents the sound of Tough Love…Big & Bumpy. There’s lots of fresh new material in there coming out on our label Get Twisted from the likes of Taiki Nulight, Hardsoul & Drity Freek & loads more. If you’ve never seen us live this will give you a good taste of what out clubs sets feel like.

Nice, give us a taste of some of your favourite British artists at the moment?

There are so many amazing British artists around at the moment. We featured a number from our label which all have releases on the way which we’re really excited about; Hot Source, H two 0, Litek, DJ Q, Taiki Nulight, Nick Tee & Riddim Commission.

We also think SKT is going to have a big year, starting with his new track ‘Take me Away’ so we had to feature that. We also included the huge hit from Alex Adair “Make Me Feel Better” as it’s the perfect feel good record.

Cool, tell us about some of your British DJ Heroes and influences in general

There’s one that stands out a mile as a British DJ hero for both of us & that’s EZ. When it comes to technical ability no one comes close, he is an absolute don.

And what’s on the cards in the immediate future?

Right now we’re busy touring our new single “So Freakin Tight”, the whole campaign has been amazing & really good fun. We’ve got a hectic touring schedule from now through the summer. When we’re not on the road or in the studio we’re working hard on our label bringing lots of new acts through. Get Twisted has a big year ahead starting with a show at Ministry of Sound London on April 18th which we’re mega excited for.

And finally, where is the best place in the world you have DJ’d and why?

We could name so many events, which have been amazing for us, some huge crowds and festivals. But in truth, without the likes of Jack Dee from OutOut, Cheeky & Majesty from Audiowhore & Kai from Fortay who now runs Abode, who all gave us a chance to prove ourselves we wouldn’t be where we are today. They were game changes for us as Tough Love & we will always have fond memories of those events.
