This week’s interview & mix comes from XO
Introduce yourself and tell us about the part of the UK you’re from?
I’m XO, a 20-year-old electronic music producer and songwriter. I’m from Stoke-on-Trent, a small working class city in the heart of Staffordshire.
Can you tell us a bit about what you’ve been working on recently?
I’ve just been creating as much music as possible, not only for myself but writing and producing with others, which always makes a nice change.
And can you talk us through the mix?
The mix is very broad and quite reflective of my live sets – different styles, moods and tempos etc. I’ve put in a lot of my current tastes and favourites – past and present.
Nice, talk us through the British music featured in this mix? Which British artists are you most excited about?
A band who go by the name of Beaty Heart really caught my ear with their track Flora and I’ve been hooked ever since I first heard it. There’s also some bits from UK producer faves Kindness and Mssingno.
Cool, tell us about some of your British DJ heroes?
I have huge respect for the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, DJ EZ, Majestic & Maximum of course, but I think Chase & Status were a big part of my musical life, especially when growing up throughout my earlier years at high school.
Great and what’s on the cards in the immediate future?
New music for myself & others and shows!
And finally, where is the best place in the world you have performed and why?
I’m yet to cover a lot of places on a global scale, however I played a couple of shows in Cologne last year, which were really great. It’s such a beautiful city and German people most definitely know how to drink!
