Free to Party

2014 marks twenty years since the Criminal Justice Bill aimed to destroy the UK Free party rave scene with its definition of ‘repetitive beats’ and other anti fun legislation. However, Britain’s most important and long-standing subculture is still going, with plenty of crews keeping the vibe alive every weekend.

Crowds are smaller, music darker and the vibe more underground than in the 90’s, but we’re still havin it. Police often turn a blind eye to the illegality, however tabloid media seems concerned with ‘unacceptable noise levels’ and ‘countryside spots left ruined’ although organisers still pride themselves on ‘leaving no trace.’

Free to Party shows how this important part of the UK’s cultural fabric carries on regardless of it being illegal. The project represents any 24 hour period of free party culture, from the inside, showing the unique collective experience that it is.

Because there’s more to it than partying, It’s a way of life; a choice to move away from the confines of conventional society and live to a different beat.
