It was ketamine. That was the one. When people ask “why ketamine?,” I say thank god it was ketamine, because it was one of the drugs that isn’t physically addictive. It was a mental addiction. It was about ego, I had to let it go.

Stay true to yourself. Stay true to the music you love…I’m just doing it for love – literally. I used to say that, but now I fucking mean it.” – Erick Morillo

In an interview with Pete Tong at IMS 2016, Erick Morillo spoke honestly and frankly about his battle with an addiction to Ketamine. At one point the addiction had been so had that wastold he may loose his arm.

“At one point, I couldn’t even urinate. Every time I tried, it would be stuck and the pain meant I had to go to hospital where they put me to sleep. When I woke up, they had slashed some of my arm off because it was so infected from putting ketamine in it.”– Erick Morillo

He blamed the addiction on his ego, as he didn’t any longer feel like he was a ‘top dog ‘ in the scene as younger DJ’s had come through. He also had problems with alcohol and spoke about his trips to rehab and cutting himself out of social situations.

Morillo’s refreshing honestly had a real impact on the crowd watching the interview, we think this open and honest approach to drugs (which was also seen at other times across the IMS conference) will have a positive impact and help reduce the harm they are doing to artists and fans in our scene.
