Event Review : Dance 88/89 at Sankeys Ibiza

The summer of love is back…

Blog

Sankeys has a reputation in Ibiza for for being a credible alternative to glamour and regality of its Den Bossa counterparts Space and Ushuaia. Sankeys is all about the music, and last night acid house legends Alfredo and Bushwacka took to the decks to remind everyone why the birth of Acid house was such a pivotal moment for dance music.

Sankeys is an incredibly simplistic club, from the door staff to getting a drink everything was effortless and that is credit those who run the club. It brings a bit of England to Ibiza…

Bushwacka announced his arrival with a blend of ‘trippy’ classics mixing and selecting each vinyl with authenticity and expertise. The punters, an electric bunch, were lapping up every second! One man, strikingly in a bucket hat, seemed to thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere that was being created. When he unleashed Frankie Knuckles onto the gathered mob the summer of love seemed well and truly back.

The night continued in a similar vein, with each piano chord or house drop met with cheers, smiles and embraces. For those there to remember the late 80’s this was their resurrection and for the rest of us, it was more of an epiphany.
