Event Review: Skream, Patrick Topping & B-Traits at Fabric London

We returned to Fabric London to check out Patrick Topping & Skream’s big B2B set.

Business as usual…

A lot was made over Fabric’s reopening. Fallacies of hugely tightened security, sniffer dogs and even secret police did the rounds in the months leading up to their grand ‘opening’ party in January. 5 months down the line and all we can truly say is that as far as Fabric are concerned it’s business as usual.

The venue still remains Britain’s dance music mecca and if Friday’s event is anything to go by it will take some beating.

Playing a gut-busting 6 hour set Skream & Patrick Topping unleashed a gargantuan array of tunes onto a tightly packed crowd. Room One swaying as one in a manner that you would have rarely seen before. The bass-laden bangers never seemed to end and the continual onslaught from the booth led others ducking for cover and a bit of rest bite.

This is no criticism of the pair.

To convey such energy for such a long set is to be applauded and when Topping’s remix of ‘Dem A Pree’ is released a few hours in the place went wild.

Over in Room 2, B-Traits was treating us to some melodic tech that has become something of a staple. Here was a notable change from the riotous atmosphere in Room One but no more impressive! The In-ToTo events proving to be something beyond mere music with B-Trait’s discussing the role female DJ’s have as future headliners on Wednesday at Fabric.

So yes, this was an excellent night but not an unusual one. Fabric has been doing this for years and will continue to do so – don’t let others tell you different.
