An Interview With… Francesca Lombardo

On Wednesday 25th September Pacha Ibiza will host the 16th annual DJ Awards. Among the nominees for the awards Francesca Lombardo has been selected as a finalist for the ‘Best Newcomer’ award. Aïda Guerrero caught up with her ahead of the big night..

dj-awards-ibiza-2012You have been nominated in the “Newcomer” Category, how will you celebrate if you win?
I would take my mum to Circoloco at the end of September – will probably do that anyway now that you made me think about it!

What has been your most memorable gig so far this year?

This year I have had many memorable gigs, not just one… I can name Beirut, Secret Garden Festival, Bucharest, Robot Heart New York and Get Lost Miami!

Francesca02Out of all the tunes you have, which one “never fails”?
For sure Sofiel, everyone love it and know it, it’s a pleasure to play it and see people recognising it right at the beginning and starting to get excited…makes me excited! I just did an edit of it, as I couldn’t keep on playing the original!

If you ended up on a desert island, which piece of music equipment could you not live without?
I’ll probably take an acoustic guitar and sing everyday… hopefully there will be someone with congas and whistles there to accompany me.

The genres of music are continually evolving, what’s your prediction for the next new musical style?
I think progressive and techno are on the way back…. I hear a lot of organic looped music with synths and melodies all over the globe…

The DJ Awards has some special awards not voted for by the public – one of which is “Track of the Season” what is your prediction on the track that will blast the dancefloors?
I think the one should probably be Gotham from Ten Walls… I see the reaction of the people when I play it … and there are not many tracks that give people goosebumps like that!

If you would like to pick anyone, whether its a musician, producer, singer or artist to work with, who would it be?
I’d love to pick more than one… but I think Audion would be one of them. He is a legend for me… and I’d love to share studio time with him and learn ..

If you had 24hrs off in Ibiza what would you do?
Go to Benirrrás all day (it has to be a Sunday) then watch the sunset to the sound of bongos playing, then have some food in Atzaró and then go to sleep cause next day I’ ll probably be at Circoloco.

If you travel in the time machine, which year would like and why?
Definitely the future… not sure which year it would be… But we would all look very similar and we won’t need to speak anymore, just use our minds to talk to each other.

Thanks for talking to us!
