Following the release of her new single on Eton Messy Records we caught up with Kayper for a quick chat…
Your new single ‘What You Say’ is your second release with Eton Messy. What is it you like about the label?
Eton Messy are the epitome of what an independent label should be. They are in a great position because they already have a strong following through their YouTube channel. They are using their brand and following to introduce new talent and are willing to take risks and invest in that talent. As a new artist, I really couldn’t ask for anything more.
How important do you think Eton Messy have been in terms of breaking new music over the last few years?
They have always been at the forefront of new, up-and-coming music – it’s fair to say they set the scene instead of following it.
Can we expect any remixes of ‘What You Say’?
Hopefully before the end of this year, we have some people working on them at the moment
How did you come to work with Johnny Winston?
I got introduced to Johnny through my manager who was friends with his publisher. We had quite a few sessions together last year where we just worked on different ideas and from that we made ‘Past Memories’ and ‘What You Say’
Have you enjoyed your gigs on the Eton Messy Tour so far?
Yes! Every gig I have done with them has been sold out and the crowd are always amazing
How has 2015 been for you? Any highlights?
This year has been a game changer for me to be honest. For most of my career, I have been known for playing hip hop/open format stuff, but I love playing house music and always wished I could play more house gigs as an artist rather than just a DJ – I finally got to do that this year
Are there any plans to work with Eton Messy next year?
Yes, hopefully
Looking ahead, what can we expect from you more generally in 2016?
More music, more remixes and more touring.
