Mihalis Safras has had a huge 2015, in fact he has been named the #1 tech house artist off the year and has been ranked mong the top 100 tech house artists of all time on RA. We caught up with the man himself for a quick chat..
How was 2015 for you now you look back – what was good, what was bad?
It was freaking awesome. Named Techouse artist of 2015 and my label Material was off the hook with some real underground releases that got some nice support.
Plus I became a daddy in December.. What else can someone ask?
Did you do anything different this year, get any new studio gear, have any new influences?
The only thing I got is 8 kilos from sitting so many hours in my studio:)
You have lots of new music coming – tell us about it, where it was written, how you work and what inspires you…
Well this month I had my EP on Saved and there are lots more coming up with releases on Circus, Glasgow Underground, Truesoul, Snatch and many more… Just stay tuned.
How does it feel to be the most charted artists and label on RA?
Feel like I will order a Greek souvlaki to celebrate haha! Feels good to see the results of your work..
When you make and release these tunes, does it feel like they are going to be big ones? Do you try and make hits, as it were?
The fact when I am in studio producing music is plain simple.. I try to do beats that feels good to listen to them wheile i produce them. I never have in mind that a track can become big or whatever. And to be honest I do not care.
Tell us about the 100th release on the label – who is behind it?
The 100th release is a mark for Material label, we had Noir doing the release and mid this year we will celebrate the 10th year since we started the label. It will have some collaborations with myself and….(the mystery is on).. Will celebrate it again with a souvlaki….
What is the outlook of the label – what music do you look to release, is the relationship with the artists important?
For Material we act like a big family, I personally talk to the artist we release on the main Material label since most are good friends of mine.
Good thing is that we have the sublabels Materialism, MrCarter and Playmobil that each one has its own unique output so that we can have a 360 outlook.
What are your proudest releases, personally and for the label?
Well that is a tricky question since I will get punched if I mention one artist and forget another.. No punches for me please.
What are you most excited about and looking forward to in 2016?
In 2016 I really look forward to raise my little boy and in the meantime to finalize my album that will come as said near June.
What goals and new year resolutions will you set? have you got any targets, personally or musically, for 2016?
My only goal for 2016 would be to stay focused on what I love more and stay underground. If I may add another goal that would be to lose those 8 kilos I earned in 2015.
