Last month we reported that Plan B in Brixton had been taken over by the Columbo Group (XOYO, The Nest) now we finally have some idea of what they are planning to do with the space. The new venue will be called Phonox and will open this September.

Work has started on new venue, Phonox

The venue will operate as a bar every night from 6pm every day will turn into a nightclub later on. Much like one of their other successful venues, XOYO, the music will be kept simple. Friday will see exciting DJ’s (not just the big names) play extended all night sets and Saturdays will be lead by a resident DJ who is still to be announced. We have already heard a few rumours of who the resident might be and have been told that it’s not a ‘big name’ and someone who is still relatively new to the  scene.

The club will be completely re-designed and there will no longer be a separate DJ in the smaller downstairs room giving space for a chill out area away from the booming soundsystem, in an interview with Resident Advisor, founder Andy Peyton said:

“The aim is to create a welcoming environment for like-minded people, focusing on every aspect of the club from the musical policy to artwork, layout and staff.”

and on the music policy, while keeping his cards close to his chest on the TBA resident DJ he said:

“The DJ is someone I’ve seen play many times and one of the best DJs I have ever put on. We hope people will come because the music is good, rather than to take photos of the DJ for Instagram. For at least the first quarter we’ll do all night long/extended sets from the DJs on Fridays.”

Whatever is in store, we are seriously excited to check out the new venue and always welcome good clubs in the capital!
