In this years New Year’s honours list, DJ royalty Pete Tong has been awarded with an MBE. He received it for services to broadcasting and music.
Pete Tong, 53, said he was proud to receive the honour but thought it was a prank when he first received the news by phone! He also made the following statement:
“It’s great to receive this honour for being a DJ. I’m proud that it acknowledges a profession that I care about a great deal, and one that’s made a huge impact around the world. I’d like to thank BBC Radio 1 for its unerring commitment to dance and electronic music and for supporting and encouraging me for over two decades.”
He also went on to thank all the promoters who book him around the world, producers and DJs that have been making the music he plays and his friends and family.
