Event Review: Red Sky Presents Bakermat, Tube & Berger & Claptone – London

1455036_743588975669984_1750558400_nI have recently been moaning that clubbing in my home town of London has become a little boring, safe line-ups, minimal production and standardised music policies. On Friday 29th November one promotions company decided to try change all that…

Red Sky, a new events and promotions company booked an incredible, forward-thinking line-up to play at The Electric in Brixton.

The line-up included the mysterious, masked producer Claptone, hot up and coming duo Tube & Berger and dutch, rising superstar Bakermat.

As we arrived the first thing that struck us was the quality of the production. Two huge screens covered the stage (one above, and one below the DJ and lights and lasers to rival any big nightclub lit up the room. Emma Shenkman was dropping some lovely deep house and techno. The dancefloor was quickly filling up and atmosphere building. By the time Tube & Berger took to the stage the venue must have been nearing capacity.

Tube & Berger delivered a predictably great deep house set, their own productions including the new single, ‘Set It Off’ sending the dancefloor into a frenzy. Smoke, CO2 and jets of fire perfectly timed with the music helped make this a special set. By the time they came off the stage was set for the headliner and the venue was completely full.

601514_754042954624586_427471705_nBakermat and saxophone player, Ben Rodenburg were up next. Aside from playing all his own hits, including ‘Uitzicht’ (out now on Soundplate Records) he played a varied set including some dark deep house and even an rock classic from Red Hot Chilli Peppers. All the while Ben playing along with everything on his Saxophone. The atmosphere can only be compared to that of a festival. Crowd surfing and hands making heart shapes galore! Again the production team went into overdrive with huge confetti cannons, jets of Co2 and even some fireworks. Just check out some of the photos to get an idea of how much they did!

Claptone somehow managed to keep up the pace and sustain the atmosphere which was no easy task after. He played a bit darker and deeper than Bakermat but the crowd stayed with him throughout. After his brilliant set, Red Sky founder and resident DJ, JOLYON dropped a huge house set, closing the show in style and keeping everyone dancing into the early hours.

1451475_754041597958055_2075907120_nThis was a night to remember and we are sure it is the start of big things to come from the Red Sky team. One of the best nights out we have had in the capital for a long time. Look out for their next event as tickets for this one sold out fast (around a month before the event!). The incredible production was also provided by a new company, JK2 Production who we also look forward to seeing more of in the future.

Lets hope that this is a sign of the thriving London electronic music scene becoming more exciting again!
