Soundplate – 10 Tracks of 2012 by Bonnie Corbyn

As we celebrate the end of the year three of our contributors selected 10 tracks each which stood out to them in 2013. Check out terry’s choices below and look out for our special top 20 with Ministry Radio later today:

Choosing my top ten tracks of 2012 proved a difficult task, finally I have completed it. It consists of both originals and remixes and ultimately 10 (or slightly more) cracking anthems of 2012.

My first one is probably a very obvious one for the past year, the dynamic duo Disclosure, two extremely talented brothers who have risen to international fame in a matter of months. My personal favourite has to be Latch featuring the wonderful Sam Smith.

The next on my list is the incredible Kastle, the self confessed bass maker has released some absolute crackers this year. I have chosen his collaboration with London based iO Sounds as my favourite track for the year, though it was a tough choice between that and his latest release ‘Baby, Keep It Real’.

My third choice undoubtedly makes most peoples’ top ten tracks of 2012 and rightly so. The super talented Bondax have become household names since 2011 and have killed it this year with great release after great release. As a result it proved pretty tricky to decide on a favourite track but I am going to go with an earlier release with ‘All I Want’.

Next we have Karma Kid. It seems 2012 has been the year for young entrepreneurial DJs to step up to the plate, and what a success they have had. The obvious choice for me would have to be ‘It’s Always’.

My Maribou State favourite was another difficult decision, it was a very close call between Scarlett Groove (Feat. Saint Saviour) and their remix of Ultraista – ‘Gold Dayzz’, I went with the latter though:

My next was pretty exciting for me, a duo from Athens, signed to Symbols Recordings who, with their debut EP ‘Marooned’ got a taste of stardom. They have done some great remixes but I thought I would go for an original with ‘Cat-o-nine-tails’

Along these same lines I have gone for Druid Cloak as a key element of my top ten. ‘The Grove’ ep is still one of my most listened to albums and he has done some great remixes and collaborations throughout the year. Track for me has to be Glyph of Moonfire.

I have decided to combine my two next artists, Shlohmo and Flume, two of my favourites of 2012, into one great track, Shlohmo’s remix of Flume’s ‘Sleepless featuring. Jezzabell Doran. What a tune.

Another great artist of 2012 and I am sure many would agree is Py and I am going to include both Throwing Snow and Face + Heel in this choice because I cannot separate them.

I am not sure that I can choose between these two songs, so I am going to include both ‘These Strings’ produced by Throwing Snow, reworked by Face + Heel, which is just great and also Py and Greenwood Sharps – ‘Crowns’. Two incredible tracks that sum up a lot of 2012 for me.

Aluna George is my next candidate, they have produced some great tracks but I am going to go for their remix of Friends ‘I’m His Girl’. Although we can’t forget Rustie’s ‘After Light’ feat Aluna George, a great track.

Lastly I have chosen Atlas, any track from their lovely EP ‘Cities’ could have made it on this list but I am going to go for the beautiful ‘Lights’.
