A few days back I was having a conversation with a well known DJ about what’s been happening in the UK Funky / Bass scene over the past year or so. One of the things we both agreed on was that a key thing that makes a producer good is consistency.
A good producer should put out consistently good material so that fans / DJ’s know that when they see a track in their inbox from ‘Producer X’ it is worth downloading and listening to. It’s also important for a good producer to have a consistent work rate. Putting out great tracks on a regular basis is vital – no one wants to be forgotten!
With all this in mind, we asked our Twitter followers to tell us who they felt was the most consistent producer in the scene. Here is what they thought…

Funkystepz & Champion
It was no surprise to us that these two names were jointly the most popular choice when this question was asked. Both Funkystepz and Champion have been working incredibly hard in the last year or so.
Funkystepz have been putting out an almost constant stream of bootlegs and remixes and just as their vocal UK Funky release ‘Circles’ dropped out of the UK House & Funky chart they bounced right back in with a track from their latest release ‘Royal Rumble’. The remixes have kept fans on their toes. Guest mixes on BBC 1Xtra and other major stations have helped keep them relevant and high quality releases coming out regularly seriously contribute to making them such a consistent production unit.

Meanwhile, Champion has also been busy. After some successful releases with labels such as Hyperdub and Hardrive he has gone on to start his own label ‘Formula Records’. He has used this label to release the highly aniticipated Lighter EP and followed it up a couple of months later with a huge vocal release ‘Sensitivity,’ which features Ruby Lee Ryder. Sensitivity has since been remixed by pretty much every up and coming producer in the scene! Just a few weeks ago Champion released his third track on the Label which features UK Funky queen Princess Nyah. Champion also DJ’s at many high profile events and has done guest mixes for big publications including Fact Mag. His distinctive sound, high work rate and quality self-releasing / marketing has really helped to establish him as one of the top producers in the scene.
